ADDING COLOR TO TRAPUNTO BY MACHINE

Workshop Materials List

PIECING:

1/4 yard each: white broadcloth and fabric chosen for sashing

3/8 yard border fabric

Neutral colored (cream or ecru) cotton thread for piecing and Trapunto set-up

TRAPUNTO SET-UP:

1/4 yard bright fabric to “shadow” through white; choose brighter than you want the finished look to be

Four 9” squares polyester batting about 3/8” thick

Water soluble basting thread (I like Vanish Extra by Superior Threads)

QUILTING:

28” square each:  backing fabric and cotton batting

Desired bobbin and top threads

1/4 yard fabric for binding

ROTARY CUTTING EQUIPMENT:

Mat

Favorite ruler or two (I like Omnigrid 6” x 12” and 4” x 8”)

Rotary cutter

GENERAL SEWING SUPPLIES:

Straight pins

Seam ripper

Small scissors or thread snips (I like the Nifty Notions 3-1/2” Blunt Nose Travel Embroidery Scissors; they cut the Trapunto batting away easily without nicking the quilt top)

Extra sewing machine needles, size 80 (Schmetz microtex sharp needles work very well for this project)

Owner’s manual for your machine for reference

Sewing machine — cleaned, oiled and ready to sew!
